City Council Supports Development of Private Motorsport Resort

Johnson City, TX – during its April session, city council passed a unanimous proclamation to support the development of a private motorsport resort in Johnson City by Motorsport Resorts International (“MRI”), a Texas-based motorsport development firm. MRI first approached Blanco County in 2006 with the idea of developing a private motorsport track and club facility in the area to stimulate tourism and economic investment in the county. The proposed multi-phase project includes the construction of a 1.8-mile general use road course with parking and limited amenities, followed by a 2.5-mile professional road course with a clubhouse, on-site merchants, and resort amenities for use by members. Limited trackside retreats and related commercial development opportunities are also being contemplated in the master plan to be submitted by MRI.

Successful examples of private motorsport clubs are already operational in Texas serving the Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston markets. However, Austin and San Antonio area enthusiasts have been without a local recreational motorsport facility to date. MRI intends to leverage the German settlement heritage of the Texas Hill Country in the development of the Bergrennenring™ motorsport resort, combining the best of local culture and recreation options to attract out-of-state visitors. Local merchants should benefit greatly from increased demand for accommodations, recreation, and dining by members and visitors. As an added attraction, the Bergrennenring intends to host car clubs, corporate outings, and paid spectator events open to the general public.
